Dear Friend,

This is a letter about stamina. About perseverance. And hope. Its main character, my brother Scott, never gives up. But, he doesn't do it all alone.

419-056 Mackler RunThroughout my brother's fifteen year journey with ALS, he has had the encouragement of the Chapter, his family, friends, colleagues and the thousands of supporters of the 14th Annual Scott Mackler 5K Run/Walk. Please join me at Temple Beth El in Newark, Delaware on Sunday, October 27 to benefit the Chapter's Scott A. Mackler MD, PhD Assistive Technology Program. This 5K has helped raise nearly $1.7 million so that people with ALS have access to assistive technology devices and services. No request for needed technology equipment has been denied since the program's inception.

My brother Scott still works in his lab at the University of Pennsylvania and remains a loving father, husband, brother, uncle and friend. As long as he keeps going, I'm going to be by his side. I look forward to seeing you on October 27. Joe Sontowski is again organizing every detail so you will have a great day. In the past, Scott's family members have been top fundraisers, but they are more than happy to let you surpass them. Your participation as a walker, runner, or fundraiser helps those with ALS communicate.

With my sincere thanks,
Harvey Mackler
