Alumni Association Update2018 Annual Beta Pi Alumni Meeting

Prior to Founders Day dinner, the annual meeting of the Beta Pi Chapter Alumni Association took place at The Inn at Penn. Ross Weiner ’80 served as Chairman for the meeting. In attendance were Joel Catania ’71, Steve Leventhal ’66, Rich Sussman ’69, Morty Cohen ’65, Dave Edman ’73, Harvey Mackler ’72, Paul Zaentz ’71, John DeCosta ‘04, Mark Perna ’68, Bruce Wolfson ’71, Dan Darkes ’68, and Bill Kenney ‘72.

For the first time in years, there were no pressing issues or serious matters that warranted immediate Alumni attention.

Bruce Wolfson ’71 mentioned that the Pi Kappa Alpha International Fraternity is actively shutting down “renegade” chapters, eg those chapters that engage in hazing or other activities that are not in compliance with the fraternity’s acceptable behavior and/or goals.

Beta Pi currently has the largest Chapter Endowment Fund of all PiKA chapters. It was discussed how more of these funds could be made available to undergraduate members. In particular, Educational Scholarships could be used for those members who have taken a particular interest in leadership roles of Beta Pi and are interested in taking part in various seminars and classes at PIKE University.

Beta Pi Chapter will be celebrating its’ 100th Anniversary as a member of Pi Kappa Alpha in November 2020. There were a multitude of opinions and suggestions expressed by those present as to whether the celebration should be held at Homecoming or Founders Day, and whether it should be a formal setting or something more casual. Morty Cohen ’65 will be taking the lead in drawing up plans. Al persons with suggestions or preferences are invited to email Morty at . Use “100” as the “subject” of the email.
