Alberto Chamorro '47 Enters Chapter Eternal

The March/April 2018 issue of The Pennsylvania Gazette reports the death of Alberto Chamorro, Beta Pi ’47, of Granada, Nicaragua.

Alberto loved being at Penn and loved Pi Kappa Alpha. He was the third of five consecutive generations of his family that attended Penn. His love for Penn and PiKA was passed on to his son, Alberto J. Chamorro, Beta Pi ‘75, who is presently a member of the Board of Trustees at Penn and is also on the Board of Overseers of the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing. Five grandchildren also graduated from Penn.

Despite the long distance from Nicaragua to Philadelphia, Alberto maintained a life-long friendship with Don Schreiber, Beta Pi ’47, who he met through PiKA. Don fondly recalls the time he spent with Alberto at Alberto’s home in Nicaragua.

After Penn, Alberto was chief executive of E. Chamorro Enterprises, S.A., a highly successful commercial leader of many diverse industries in Nicaragua. Despite the demands of his extensive business interests, Alberto Chamorro was always a modest and gracious person. Don very much appreciated the attention Alberto provided as host and was thrilled at being transported around Nicaragua in Alberto’s private planes and ships.

The brothers of Beta Pi offer their sincerest condolences to our brother Alberto J. Chamorro and his family.
