The Hermanators Bike For Parkinson's ResearchOn September 7, 2019, the 12th Annual New England Parkinson’s Ride was held in Old Orchard Beach, Maine. This annual bike ride benefits the Michael J. Fox Foundation for research toward a cure for Parkinson’s disease.

In honor of Jerry Herman, Beta Pi ’72, a team of seven bicyclists, named the Hermanators, was organized by Jerry’s wife, Linda, and David Edman, Beta Pi ’73, to compete in this event.

The results? In Jerry’s own words:

“The Hermanators had a very successful day!! What started out as a dismal forecast for the Saturday morning ride due to Hurricane Dorian (90% chance of rain all morning) turned out to be the perfect day! Cloudy and overcast for 2 hours of riding, a little wind but manageable, then the sun came out. Not a drop of rain! Some of the team rode 30 miles and Linda led the 50-mile group! As a team, we raised over $18,000 which was part of over 1 million dollars raised by all the riders.”

For the last ten years, Jerry has been engaged in a personal battle against the debilitating effects of Parkinson’s disease. Through it all, brother Herman’s loyalty and love for Pi Kappa Alpha has never wavered.

The Hermans thank everyone who participated in the Parkinson’s Ride and all those who honored Jerry with their generosity by donating to this worthy cause.
