FOUNDERS DAY CANCELED The world-wide concern over the spread of the highly contagious coronavirus has forced the cancellation of the 2020 Founders Day celebration and the annual meeting of the Alpha Phi Delta Housing Corp. The health and safety of our brothers was the primary concern in the making of this decision.

This decision follows the actions of the Penn administration to deal with the rapidly spreading coronavirus. Penn has decided to close all University housing and cancel all activities on campus. Students in University housing have been told to vacate the dorms. It is not clear if this policy applies to fraternity houses. The Penn campus has been shut down for the remainder of the semester. Most Penn students have no alternative but to go home. They will be permitted to complete their courses online.

Penn’s announcements follow world-wide restrictions being placed on travel, gatherings of large numbers of people, and warnings that the coronavirus is particularly dangerous for the elderly.

On March 12, 2020, it was unanimously decided by the officers of the Beta Pi Alumni Association to cancel this special Founders Day dinner celebration and the annual meeting of the Beta Pi Alumni Association and the Alpha Phi Delta Housing Corporation. Notice was immediately sent out by email. It was special as this year is the 100th Anniversary of the year that Alpha Phi Delta, a local fraternity, became a chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha, a national fraternity.

Within 24 hours, the Beta Pi Alum. Assoc. received messages from nine Beta Pi alumni members, Paul Zaentz ’69, Harvey Mackler ’72, Jerry Goldberg ’74, Rich Myers ’69, Rich Sussman ’69, Todd Wieseneck  ’72, Ed Shamy ’74, Bill Kenney ’69, and Mark Mancini ’69, expressing their regrets for the cancellation. The majority of these brothers asked that their monetary deposits for Founders Day dinner be held for next year. The others did not specify. Not one requested a refund. All prepaid brothers who did not specify, and those who have not responded to the announcement, will be contacted regarding refunds.

All brothers are asked to be very careful. Take great care to safeguard your health, as well as the health and safety of others, during these trying times.
