Chapter NotesCongratulations to Mitchell D. Goldsmith, Beta Pi ’72, for joining the Pi Kappa Alpha Inter/National Fraternity’s 1868 Club. Club members donate $18.68/month for one year, $224.16 total, to qualify for membership. These funds are unrestricted and support causes as determined by the Pike Foundation’s Board of Trustees.

Ronak Bhagia, Beta Pi ’19, and Kaden Stenger, Beta Pi ’19, have been designated by Pi Kappa Alpha Inter/National as Garnet Certified for their participation in five PIKE University events. All Beta Pi undergraduates are encouraged to attend these occasions for the finest in fraternity education. As an incentive, certain costs associated with attendance at these events are underwritten by the Beta Pi Chapter Endowment Fund (CEF). Beta Pi’s CEF is the largest of all PiKA chapters and colonies.

Harvey Mackler, Beta Pi ’72, announces that the annual Scott Mackler MD PhD run/walk will not take place as usual this year due to the coronavirus. There will be a “virtual walk”, details forthcoming. This event was created by Harvey and the Mackler family, to honor the legacy of Scott Mackler, Beta Pi ’77. Your donations for the benefit of the ALS Association of Greater Philadelphia will be greatly appreciated. Last year, the undergraduate members of Beta Pi conducted a music festival called Pikapalooza that resulted in a donation of more than $2000 to combat the effects of ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. Unfortunately, our active members of PiKA will not be on campus in the fall this year. This makes your help more important than ever. Donations can be sent to ALS Philadelphia at

Show your PiKA pride and conform to COVID-19 protocols. Harvey Mackler has developed, and is distributing, a PiKA face mask through his company, GEMPIRE/Floral Promotions. These masks cost $6 per mask, $75 for a pack of 25 masks. Shipping by ground is included in the price. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Pi Kappa Alpha Foundation. Chapter NotesPaul Zaentz, Beta Pi ’69, has announced that a new series, Ratched, will debut on the Netflix network on September 18, 2020. Brother Zaentz is the Producer for this new series.

As the prequel to the Academy Award winning movie, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Ratched is a psychological suspense drama that traces the arrival of Mildred Ratched to the psychiatric facility where she was employed. The show covers the circumstances that influenced Nurse Ratched to become cruel, sadistic, and to be considered one of the most hated movie characters ever.

Rights to the character, Mildred Ratched, are owned by the Saul Zaentz Company. After a deal was made allowing Ryan Murphy, creator of American Horror Story and Glee, to acquire rights to produce the show, brother Zaentz, a well-respected and experienced Producer, came aboard to act as a Producer for Ratched.

An all-star cast includes Sarah Paulson, Cynthia Nixon, Sharon Stone, Vincent D’Onofrio, Rosanna Arquette, Don Cheadle, and many others. Ratched has been chosen by Mike Hale of the New York Times, to be one of the top 19 shows to premiere in the 2020-2021 television season.
