ALUMNI NEWS AND UPDATESCongratulations to Paul Vogel, Beta Pi ’92, CFO at Spotify, an internet music streaming company, on the success of the Spotify release of Sour, Olivia Rodrigo’s pop debut album.

Sour debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart and repeated its No. 1 rating in its fifth week. For each of the first five weeks following its debut, Sour earned over 100,000 album equivalency units. It is only the second album ever to have achieved this goal.

Of additional interest, Olivia Rodrigo, age 18, was recently summoned to the White House to meet with President Joe Biden. She was asked to join the President in issuing a social media message asking teenagers to obtain Covid-19 vaccinations.

The Beta Pi Alumni Association wishes to thank all alumni who look forward to and enjoy our monthly e-letters. Our communications try to provide the latest news and fraternity history regarding our undergraduate members, our alumni, and Pi Kappa Alpha Inter/National.

We are gratified that analysis shows an average 34% email open rate. This is nearly double the average email marketing benchmark of 18% across all industries. The success of our e-letters can only be attributed to a belief that our alumni find our e-letters to be relevant, informative, and interesting.

If you have any news to be distributed or suggestions for new articles, we look forward to your input. Please send your news, comments, and suggestions to Morty Cohen, Beta Pi ’65, at email address: fishfry1201@aol.com. Use “Beta Pi” as the subject line.

Thank you again for your continued interest in the success of Beta Pi chapter.

Pi Kappa Alpha has released the 2020 Annual fund-raising report for the Pi Kappa Alpha Foundation (the Pike Foundation). Bruce Wolfson, Beta Pi ‘71, is a trustee of this foundation that raised $2,219,836 for the fiscal year to supply scholarships and grants to its undergraduate members.

Once again, Beta Pi’s generosity and loyalty to PiKA was demonstrated by the contributions of its undergraduate and alumni members. There being 306 active and inactive chapters of PiKA, Beta Pi ranked 41st in number of donors, 42nd in percent of living members who donated, and 23rd in total amount donated. Contributions by Beta Pi members to the Pike Foundation for this year totaled $23,932.67.

Thank you to all 36 undergraduates and alumni who donated to the Pike Foundation. Your donations are appreciated and will be well-spent to further the educations of undergraduate members of PiKA.

Congratulations to Joey Cohen, Beta Pi ’02, who has successfully completed running the Western States Endurance Run (WSER), a 100.2 mile ultramarathon endurance race in California, on June 26-27, 2021.

The WSER is considered the most prestigious ultramarathon race conducted in the United States. It draws outstanding and accomplished competitors from across our nation and foreign countries. This year’s entrants included the No. 1 rated ultramarathoner in the United States.

Joey traveled from his home in Shaker Heights, Ohio, to compete. Combating air temperatures in the high nineties, and without a pacer or crew, Joey was able to complete the course in 27 hours, 48 minutes, 37 seconds. This was good enough to finish 101st out of 315 entrants. Well done, Joey.

Monthly e-letters from the Beta Pi Alumni Association will no longer be sent out in the months of January and July. Printed issues of Slices of Beta Pi will continue to be mailed twice each year. Your past and continued interest in the success of Beta Pi and Pi Kappa Alpha is very much appreciated.
